The Merriown Solar Farm is a 6.5MWdc project located in Boggabri, New South Wales.

The project scope comprised survey works, piling, single-axis tracker (SAT) mechanical installation, and PV module installation.

The site utilises Nextracker NX Horizon single-axis tracking systems paired with Longi Solar LR5-72HGD-580M PV modules, with a total of 11,256 modules installed across the site.

Tranex Power was engaged by Idemitsu to deliver survey, piling, SAT mechanical, and module installation works. These activities were coordinated across multiple work fronts to meet programme, quality, and safety requirements.

Once complete, the solar farm commenced full-scale generation of up to approximately 5 MW of renewable power. This power is used to supply the operational daytime energy demand of the Boggabri Coal Mine, reducing the mine’s reliance on grid electricity and cutting its Scope 2 carbon emissions.

Execution maintained schedule discipline under local site and ground conditions, with precise installation of the tracker and PV systems supporting a smooth transition into commissioning and operational readiness.

Early Works
Engagement

For this project, significant early works were undertaken to give the client a fully risk-inclusive lump-sum price aligned with all grant conditions. These early investigations allowed us to precisely understand the grant-related risks and their potential impact on delivery.

As a result, we were able to plan, program, and allocate resources with accuracy, while enabling the client to confidently lock in their overall risk profile with the project financiers and lenders. The approach created a mutually beneficial outcome, providing certainty for both parties.
