The Boggabri BESS is a 20 MWh battery energy storage system integrated into the 4.95 MWac Boggabri Solar Farm at Idemitsu Australia's Boggabri Coal Mine in NSW, owned and operated by Boggabri Coal Operations Pty Ltd.
Built using EVE batteries, the BESS charges directly from the on-site solar array, storing surplus daytime generation so the mine can draw on renewable power beyond daylight hours. Construction of the solar array began in early 2026, with the BESS works following to support the site's overall energisation timeline.
The project reached energisation in September 2026, successfully transferring power and charging the batteries directly from the solar array for the first time, with commissioning completed that same month. The BESS is now fully operational, playing a central role in maximising the mine's use of on-site renewable generation by storing energy for use outside daylight hours and reducing reliance on grid electricity.
With the Construction Certificate delayed and IFC electrical drawings unfinalised, Tranex Power broke the project into deliverable packages, allowing critical scopes - including BESS works - to start early. This protected the schedule, reduced downstream congestion, and kept the project on track.
