The Boggabri Solar Farm is located near Idemitsu Australia's Boggabri Coal Mine in NSW, roughly 500km north-west of Sydney. Owned and operated by Boggabri Coal Operations Pty Ltd, it's a behind-the-meter solar and battery project built to supply green electricity directly to the mine, offsetting grid usage during daylight hours.
The facility combines a 6.5MWp / 4.95MWac solar array with a 20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), sized to cover 100% of the mine's daytime load requirements. Construction began early 2026 and was completed in August. The project reached energisation in September 2026, successfully transferring power and beginning to charge the batteries directly from the solar array.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to cut around 5,000 tons of CO2 in its first year and reduce the mine's Scope 2 emissions from electricity use by 40% annually, supporting Idemitsu's long-term net-zero by 2050 target.
After demonstrating exemplary performance on other projects within the CPE portfolio, Tranex Power was awarded an additional site. With the Construction Certificate delayed and IFC electrical drawings still not finalised, we worked closely with the client to strategically break the project into deliverable packages. This allowed critical scopes to commence early, protecting the schedule and keeping momentum on site. By structuring the works this way, Tranex Power safeguarded progress, reduced downstream congestion, and ensured the project advanced despite regulatory and design constraints.
