“When the sun sets, batteries rise”

Sharp insights from PV Magazine USA’s coverage of California’s grid operator (CAISO) show how quickly storage is shifting from supporting infrastructure to system-defining asset.

A recent grid operating period saw batteries charge during midday solar surpluses and discharge through the evening peak into the early morning, shifting solar generation across both demand windows well beyond daylight hours. The structural shift is clear: batteries now capture excess generation and redeploy it when demand occurs, freeing solar from daytime economics.

The Tranex Power BESS division specialises in the design, construction, and commissioning of battery energy storage systems, delivered as standalone assets or integrated with existing generation. These systems support grid stability while giving clients greater control over dispatch and exposure to price volatility.
