The CIS Delivery Challenge

New reporting highlights just how much pressure the CIS is under to deliver on its 40GW target.

A snapshot of progress so far shows that:

→ 3 of 19 first-auction winners have reached financial close

→ 13 of 59 projects across the first four auctions have hit that milestone

→ Less than half of early-tender projects are expected to ultimately get built

Rising interest rates, falling wholesale power prices, supply chain constraints and a shortage of long-term offtake buyers are squeezing project viability.

Industry voices are now calling for a policy reset: prioritising projects with a credible path to construction over those that simply put in the lowest bid, and applying a "use it or lose it" approach to capacity that isn't progressing.

Delivery capability is what turns a winning bid into a finished project, and that's where the real opportunity lies for developers who can execute.
